Servas in Musselburgh

[March 24 - 25]

Another great homestay through Servas!
We stayed with Ewan, Gail, and Bridget in Musselburgh, a small town on the outskirts of Edinburgh. A big sign displays the name as you enter the main street: Musselburgh, The Honest Town. Apparently this implies a healthy rivalry with the other local "dishonest" towns!

Ewan is a mental health counselor and rides his bike around to visit different patients and stay in good shape. Gail also works in the mental health field but as an art therapist. She also makes some nice prints and is learning wood block printing. Bridget is their cute 2 year old who keeps them quite busy outside of work.

Our main activity in this town was a visit to the famous S. Lucas, an ice cream shop with a nice restaurant as well. We sampled the chocolate and the vanilla, which were a bit like soft serve ice cream.

Back in their home, we had nice chats and were able to ask all of our questions about Scotland and hear about current events. I think Bridget found us entertaining because if we did anything funny with her stuffed animals, she would laugh and demand "Again!" After 2 nights we headed out to meet some family friends in Kinross.

Thanks guys for saying nice things about us. I'll show Bridget the picture soon. It was great to meet you both, and I'm very impressed with your site. We also really liked how much you both were willing to get involved with Bridget. Bon voyage (what's left of it). Ewan
