Traditional Thai Dress

[Jan 25]

While waiting for our suits to be made in Chiang Mai, we checked out an entirely different sort of wardrobe in the photo studio across the street. Like the studios in the United States that dress you up in "old western" clothing and take sepia-toned shots of you sporting a Winchester and spurs, this shop makes its dough playing dress-up with you, Thai-style. I'm not sure if it's purely historical or if it has some relevance to modern ceremonial dress, but either way, it looks ridiculous on us.

The Graubes in Traditional Dress

The whole process of getting ready took about two hours, including hideous makeup jobs on everyone, courtesy of our transvestite makeup artist. Too bad that they didn't spend as much time on the lighting, which occasionally failed and resulted in a few under-lit shots. The best shot had to be of Maris, who looked surprisingly at home in his regal outfit, and we hope to see his solo portrait gracing the walls of Relcom.

Here's the requisite shot of Marita and me. As I'm sure you can tell by my smile, I'm quite taken with her.

What?! How can you say that you guys looked ridiculous?! You guys look great in them! :) The clothes that you are wearing in those pics are only for Royalties. As you can see, it has more gold and more accessories than the usual traditional clothings. But now, since everyone has money... everyone can afford to have at least one of these outfits now.
